VV Brown Explains ‘Shark in the Water’ to Digital Spy
In addition to being the fashion world’s musical darling and making headway with her singles “Crying Blood” and “Leave!,” VV Brown has both an online fashion boutique and a comic book in the works. The singer-songwriter-producer obviously likes to stay very busy, but she managed to find the time to sit down with Digital Spy and chat about the VV Brown single, “Shark in the Water,” and her current status as a London fashion icon.
For fans who are still wondering about the metaphor behind the shark in the water, VV explains: “It’s anxiety. I guess I’m trying to create a new phrase. When something’s not quite right or there’s some kind of problem, you might say, ‘Maybe there’s a shark in the water.’ The video expresses anxiety in a relationship situation, but generally I’d like the song to be a bit more ambiguous. It could be anxiety about anything.”
With such an honest, yet open-ended theme, it’s obvious that the singer takes her art very seriously. There is an element of truth to the single “Shark in the Water,” and anyone can relate to such a simple and common emotional matter.
When asked what she’d thought of the song when she was writing it, VV responded: “Hmm… I never think when I’m writing a song, ‘This is a hit.’ It did feel exciting when I wrote it and I knew it was a great song, but you need so many other components to turn something into a hit record.”
Obviously VV has what it takes to make a hit record, among other talents, and she thinks this one could be her breakthrough hit, but remains grounded, telling Digital Spy, “If this isn’t it we’ve got plenty of other songs to go with. I’m very much a fighter.”

I have heard Shark In The Water once only a few weeks ago on the Janice Long radio show and have never forgotten it. It's different and I have no doubt the rest of the album will be very much to my liking as this one is.
